My ‘Not So Much To-Do’ List

If you’re anything like me, you love a good to-do list. They are honestly a must for me- I couldn’t get through my days without them and I most definitely would not remember half of the things I am scheduled to do!

 

However of late, as my to-do list extends as I get busier, I have noticed my productivity slipping. Having so much on my plate, whilst great, is making me a lot less focused (and a lot more scatty). Also my to-do list is now the length of an Olympic sized swimming pool. I don’t know about you but sitting down and staring at a 45 point long list makes me feel more than slightly anxious. It’s just showing you how much there still is to do, which isn’t the best way to wake up of a morning (when I tend to tackle mine).

 

After speaking with my Mum who is an organisation queen (what Mum isn’t), she shared with me a great tip which she uses daily when attempting to tackle her tasks. Every evening she sits down with her Diary, and instead of writing a massive to-do list of every single thing she hasn’t achieved yet in life, she jots down three things. Just three that are absolutely essential for the following day. Three things- easy peasy. And then, as soon as those three things are done, so is she. She gives herself a pat on the back for achieving everything she set out to that day and gets on with something she’d much rather be doing. Genius. This method is great in my opinion, for three reasons.

 

1. You can put all of your energy into just three things that require it, and feel happier therefore with the results.

 

2. You will feel a great sense of accomplishment at the end of the day, because you achieved everything you set out to do.

 

3. You’ll have some time to actually live your darn life!

 

I am now implementing this way of ‘to-doing’ into my life- and so far so good. It’s only been a few weeks, but the results have been amazing and to-do lists are no longer taking over my life. Let me know if this method works for you!
