Out With The Old...

Crate a Party

With Spring/Summer/who knows anymore, finally making an appearance- I am fully embracing the feelings that have come with it. One of which is finally tackling the long awaited wardrobe clearout that I have been putting off since mid December, (sadly not an exaggeration). This time of year is the perfect time for a clothing overhaul, so I thought I would share with you a couple of my top tips for making it a less stressful and actually quite therapeutic experience.

Pick a time and stick to it

I know I’m guilty of this. Making a list and constantly moving the thing I deem ‘least important’ to the bottom every day. Which is always this. If you’re the same, block off a Morning/afternoon where you know you won’t be disturbed, and just do it.

The one year rule

This is a rule I use often and something I think works well. If you haven’t worn it in a whole year- get rid. Chances are you won’t be wearing it this year either. It seems harsh, but I promise you’ll thank me for it.

Be ruthless (but not plain foolish)

Something which used to amuse me greatly when I was a child was my sisters annual Spring Clear out. As it was warmer she would get rid of every single winter jumper she owned, then sure enough, September would roll around and she would have a wardrobe full of strappy tops, shorts and not much else. The moral of the story here is, just because you’re not wearing all your jumpers and coats at this time of year, don’t just get rid of the lot. Make conscious, informed choices and remember, it gets bloomin chilly in Winter!

Think Present; not Past

Do you love it? I know I know, you LOVED it when you bought it. Otherwise you wouldn’t have bought it right? But I’m talking about NOW. Do you love it right this moment? Is it enhancing your life? It’s very important to differentiate between the two as they are very often confused. Don’t hold onto the past. Move on!

Reward yourself

My trick is, if I remove enough clothes from my wardrobe, it means there’s much more room for shiny new stuff- which is a great incentive let me tell you. You can pick anything as a reward. But it has to be something that will truly motivate you to get shiz done.

I hope you found these tips helpful, let me know if you have any tips for making clearing out your wardrobe as painless as possible.
